Spanish vs English

False cognates (words that look alike in both languages, but mean something completely different) are always creating difficulties for us when we try to use them.  Here are a few examples:

invertir -  we think it means to invert while it really means "to invest"
compromiso - we think it means compromise while it really means "to commit"

So here's one that still gives us a start:

Molestar is an everyday word that simply means "to bother" in Spanish, however the English meaning is quite different. You have to be careful when you're a Spanish speaker & use this false cognate!!

Our Home in Costa Rica

Unbelievable, but here's a new post :-)

Many people have asked about our home here in Costa Rica, so I thought I'd post a few pictures.  This apartment is a gift from God.  We were still in language school last year and weren't looking for a new place to live.  Through a meeting of two guys who didn't even know each others names, we were put in contact with our landlady.  The apartment has been a genuine blessing when we host teams from the U.S.,  family and friends,  and our local ReachGlobal team.  Our landlady who is a lawyer lives in the first apartment, the pastor (Jim) and I live in the middle apartment, and the landlady's single daughter (who is a doctor) lives in the last apartment.  We've got the legal, spiritual, and health issues covered!

Friends

The first couple of weeks of March we were blessed by visitors from Fellowship Bible Church in Jacksonville, TX.  It is always wonderful to have friends come visit, and we were sad to see them go.

These friends were so sweet and took me along on an adventure to Santa Teresa and to the Holiday Inn Express here in San Jose.  I know it doesn't sound too exotic to go to the Holiday Inn Express, but it was a special treat to have a bathtub, air conditioning, and a shower with hot water & strong water pressure.

In Santa Teresa we enjoyed breathtaking sunsets.

Trembling with fear, a few of us ventured off to a zip line & flew through the jungle.  It was an adrenaline rush!

Friends are a amazing gift from God.  I could not make it through the up and downs of life without them, and the moments with true friends calm my emotions and restore a bit of my sanity.

Thank you Father for each and every friend in my life!

Florida

We have returned to the U.S. for a short time to attend a conference with ReachGlobal LatinAmerican/Caribbean personnel, and to visit friends and family.

Our first week has been spent in Florida at the conference for ReachGlobal.  Being the "new kids on the block" it has been great to meet other missionaries serving in Latin America and learn from them.

We are currently experiencing some readjustments:

We are flushing the toilet paper in the toilet.
It's just so weird now to do so,
and I feel like I'll cause plumbing problems each time I flush it.

The LSU-Alabama game was in English.

The over abundance food everywhere we go.

We are excited to see family and friends on our next stop in Alabama!
See you soon!
